How Is Shukr Prayer and Sajdah Shukr Performed?
How many rakahs is the shukr prayer (Prayer of thanks)? How are shukr Prayer and Sajdah Shukr (Prostration of thankfulness) Performed?
Answer:
Shukr prayer (Prayer of thanks) is performed in order to thank Allah (swt) in return for the blessings He bestowed. It doesn’t have a specific time. It is at least 2 rakahs.
And there is also Sajdah Shukr (Prostration of thankfulness). It is done in order to thank Allah after getting over a disaster or catastrophe. First of all after taking ablution, you say the opening takbir (iftitah takbir-Allahu Akbar) and after conveying your thanks and praises to Allah, you stand up again to Qiyam (standing) saying “Allahu akbar”. It is prescribed for anything that makes one happy, whether it is attaining some benefit or warding off some harm. This Sajdah is done often by the Prophet (saw).
"Abu Bakr said that when the Prophet (pbuh) heard any news that made him glad, he would fall down prostrating to Allah, may He be exalted." (Nasai, Tirmidi)
"Mughira b. Shu'ba reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) worshipped so much that his feet were swollen.
It was said to him: (Why do you undergo so much hardship despite the fact that) Allah has pardoned for you your earlier and later sins?
Thereupon he said: May I not (prove myself) to be a grateful servant (of Allah)?" (Muslim, Book 39, Hadith 6772) Kaynak: http://askaquestionto.us - How Is Shukr Prayer and Sajdah Shukr Performed?
Another question about this topic:
i wanted to know if sajdah shukr can be done in any direction or towards the qiblah
Answer:
Assalamu alaikum,
Dear Brother,
Sajdah al shukr is to prostrate in thankfulness to Allah when receiving a bounty or rescuing from a danger or a trial; facing the Kaba, saying “Allah-u Akbar”, falling in prostration, fulfilling hamd (praising of God) and tasbih (glorifying God) and sitting up the sajdah with takbir (Allah-u Akbar).
It is stated in the hadiths that Our Prophet performed sajdah al shukr facing the Kaba
Narrated Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf:
“The Prophet (pbuh) went out to the place where the sadaqah was kept, then he faced the Qiblah and fell in prostration, remaining like that for a long time. Then he raised his head and said, “Jibreel came to me with good news, he said, ‘Allah says to you, “Whoever sends blessings on you, I will send blessings on him, and whoever sends greetings of peace to you, I will send greetings of peace to him,”’ so I prostrated in thankfulness to Allah.” (Ahmad)
There are many benefits and wisdoms in facing Kaba the oldest and the most blessed temple while praying; such as providing the unity among Muslims, maintaining the harmony, relieving the hearts with a mutual worship feeling and illuminating souls with the light of worship. (Great Islamic Jurisprudence)
Therefore, all prayers and prostrations including sajdah al shukr should be performed facing the Qiblah. Kaynak: http://askaquestionto.us - How Is Shukr Prayer and Sajdah Shukr Performed?
