What does zakat al fitr mean?

What does fitr mean? What is the provision? When was it ordered?

Answer:

Zakat al fitr is a kind of charity that is wajib (compulsary) for every Muslim possessing goods at least of nisab value except for his basic needs and who reaches the end of Ramadan.

It is also called just "fitr." It was ordained the same time that Ramadan fasting was legislated and also shortly before the legislation of zakat (all three were ordained in the 2nd year of hijra). Zakat al fitr is a means of help. It is a help to the poor to provide their needs and to include them into the joy and pleasure of the eid day. With this aspect, zakat al fitr is a mission and a benefaction for the humanity. (Great Islamic Jurisprudence, Omar Nasuhi Bilmen ) Kaynak: http://askaquestionto.us - What does zakat al fitr mean?
