Is It A Sin to Tell Fortune?
What is the ruling of telling fortune? What about telling fortune or visiting a fortuneteller just for fun?
Answer:
“.... Strong drink and games of chance and idols and divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan's handiwork. Leave it aside in order that ye may succeed.” (Al-Maida, 90)
“And with Him are the keys of the Invisible. None but He knoweth them.” (Al-Anaam, 59)
Prophet (pbuh) said,
“If anyone goes to a diviner (fortune-teller) and asks about something and believes it, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days.” (Muslim)
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who has prohibited every kind of oracles together with all superstitions also prohibited believing and confirming soothsayers (fortune-tellers).
Muslim Scholars say that going to soothsayers and believing what they say harm faith (iman). Because, since most of their sayings are due to being fake and lie (untruth); if a person believes in soothsayers and prepares his future according to what he hears, either he will believe untruth dreams and useless expectations or will be in hopeless and pessimism. This situation will damage his spiritual life even his family life.
