 Effects of Envy

Envy in the first place gives harm to the envier

Answer:

“Envy in the first place consumes and destroys the envier and its harm for the one envied is either slight or nonexistent.” (Maktubat)
Muawiya states that: “”There isn’t a manner as fair as envy amongst the bad fairs; because it kills the envier before touching the one envied.” (Adab ad- Dunya wa’d Din)
Abdulhamid states that: “Envier is like a person who has drunk poison. As he disposes of the pain when the poison spreads the body and he dies; similarly the envier disposes of the pain of the envy if only he dies.” (Adab ad-Dunya wa’d Din)
Envy in the first place harms the envier since he is grieved by the bounties other people receive. However, the biggest harm occurs when he isn’t content with carrying the envy in his heart and acts with the evil feelings that his envy leads to. Since envy will leads him to many other bad manners and actions like tricks, lies, enmity, revenge and so on, in the surah al-Falaq it is advised and commanded to seek refuge in Allah (swt) from the evil and harm of the envier.
“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the Daybreak
… And from the evil of the envier when he envieth.” (Surah al-Falaq, 1 and 5)
“Inside the envier, a fire burns constantly. A fire burns him and melts him slowly; because as long as a person is envied, Allah (swt) increases his bounties. As long as the bounties he receives increase, the envy therefore the discomfort and inconvenience of the envier rise. The envier gets very upset and even loses his sleep. He gets deadly sick. While he wishes the misery of the envied one, the envy becomes miserable. (Imam-I Shafee) Kaynak: http://askaquestionto.us - Effects of Envy
