 Does getting blood drawn break the fast?

Does getting blood drawn invalidate the fast in Ramadan?

Answer:

It's permissible to get blood drawn while fasting in Ramadan.

However, if it will weaken the body and obstruct the fasting, then it is makruh (abominable) for the fasting person to get blood drawn.

Narrated Thabit Al-Bunani: Anas bin Malik was asked whether they disliked the cupping for a fasting person. He replied in the negative and said, "Only if it causes weakness."  (Bukhari, Fasting)

In some narrations it is related that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) got his blood drawn while fasting;

Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet was cupped while he was in the state of lhram, and also while he was observing a fast.  (Bukhari,  Fasting; Abu Dawud, Fasting)

But in some others, it is narrated that he had forbidden some people from getting blood drawn while fasting. (Buhârî, Ebû Dâvud, Tirmizî, Ibn Mâce, Ahmed b. Hanbel)

Considering these situations, getting blood drawn does not break fast; however, it is more appropriate for a fasting person to get blood drawn at nights in Ramadan. (The Islamic Encyclopedia of Jurisprudence) Kaynak: http://askaquestionto.us - Does getting blood drawn break the fast?
