Fasting in Dhul Hijjah
What is the importance of fasting in the first 10 days of the month Dhul Hijjah?
Answer:
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) never quitted fasting Dhul Hijjah
Hadrat Hafsah (ra), the honorable wife of Our Prophet, reported that:
"There are five things that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) never abandoned: fasting on the day of 'Ashurah, fasting on the [first] 10 [days of Dhul-Hijjah], fasting on 3 days of every month and praying two rak'ahs of sunnah in fajr prayer." (Imam Ahmad, an-Nasa'I)
Dhul Hijja Fasts have the Thawaab (Reward) of Setting Free Slaves
Hadrat Aisha stated that:
“There was a young boy; He used to fast in the month of Dhul Hijja. When Our Prophet (pbuh) learnt his situation, He called him and asked: “Why do you fast in these days?” The young boy answered: “O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you! These days are the days of hajj and worship. Probably Allah (swt) shall make me a partner of duas made these days.
Thereupon our Prophet (pbuh) said to the young boy: “For each day you fast, there is as much thawab (reward) as setting off one hundred slaves for the sake of Allah; giving one hundred camels and one hundred horses as alms that you battle on. When the day of Tarwiya (the 8th day of Dhul Hijja) comes, there is the thawab of setting off one thousand slaves for the sake of Allah (swt) and giving alms of one thousand camels and one thousand horses which you battle on. And on the day of Arafa, you get as much thawab as setting off two thousand slaves for the sake of Allah and giving alms of two thousand camels and two thousand horses which you battle on.
Fasting on the Arafa day of eid ul-adha (feast of sacrifice) is worth two years fasting; and fasting on the ashura day is worth one year fasting.” (Imam-I Gazali)
Fasting Any Days of Dhul Hijja is Loved to Allah
"There are no days more loved to Allaah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul Hijja. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer salatul tahajjud (late-night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on the night of power. (i.e., Lailatul Qadr)." (Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, al-Baihaqi) Kaynak: http://askaquestionto.us - Fasting in Dhul Hijjah
